Hello there.
Hey. Hi. Howdy. Hellooooooo.
You wouldn’t think I’d be afraid of “taking the stage” after growing up a theatre kid, but I’m just so nervous about this first post. I care so much about this new project and want it to be a success.
What new project?
That’s right, we are making a video game!
Yes, we haven’t made anything besides game-jam games before…
Yes, we don’t technically have the team members required to complete this project yet…
Yes, we don’t technically have any funding at the moment…
Yes, a lot of people fail to complete their dream game…
Oh, were those fears supposed to stop us? Let me tell you how I view these points:
A different perspective
You haven’t made a real game before.
That’s true. I’ve only done Game-Jam and College projects before getting into my main career in software development. I’ve always wished I had the time to make a full game, but I always put it off. Instead, I kept journals of cool games I’d love to make if I ever got a chance.
And then this game idea came along. I still don’t have the time, but that didn’t stop me. Instead, the passion I have for completing this game has me working a full day and then jumping straight into game design on this project. Something’s special about this project and it is driving me forward to make sure it becomes real one day.
You don’t have the team you need to build this.
That’s true. Right now our team is really small and all volunteering their free time for this project. We have 3 contributing members at the moment:
Myself - Design, Scripting, UX/Card Design
Michael - Design, Writing, Production
Will - Art Direction
We’d love to grow the team to cover the specialties we are missing, especially that of expertise in game engine programming or 3D modeling/texturing. But we are confident that we can find some talented people out there who see the vision of this game as well.
You can’t make a game without funding.
That’s true. But right now we’ve been able to develop this game in our free time and we’ve gone pretty far. We don’t expect to make it to the finish line without acquiring funding. But our goal is to reach a place where we can deliver a workable demo of the game for Kickstarter. We think there are enough people out there looking for cool new tactics games that are willing to provide the funding for us to complete the game. Maybe you are one of them?
So many people fail to make their dream game.
That’s true. I am pretty afraid that this might fail. I’m afraid that I will tell people that I’m trying something hard and that I might let them down. But while I’m afraid of letting down people if things don’t go our way, I’m excited for the people who might get that little extra boost of inspiration from seeing us try. I think it’s probably better to try to inspire others than to hide from failure.
So how can you help?
There are two things you can do right now to help this game become more real:
Check out our “How Can I Help?” page. It has open positions we are looking for as well as some little ways you can get involved.
Thanks for caring,
Justin L.
